Sucre, capital city of Bolivia, has been declared by the UNESCO a "Cultural Patrimony of Humanity", recognizing and confirming this way the exceptional and universal value of its cultural wealth that should be protected for the humanity's benefit.

 

The tourist that visits the capital of Bolivia has several attractives to visit, besides churches and museums. Few kilometres from the city there are villages, communities and places that have a lot to show.

VILLA DE YOTALA
It is located 15 kilometres from the city, on the Highway Sucre-Potosí towards the south. It is a picturesque town with narrow and paved streets that take us back to the colonial time. Several of the families of Sucre use it for their weekends in private properties. August 30th, takes place the festivity of Santa Rosa's Virgin, Patron of the region, with an interesting folkloric-religious encounter, attended by the inhabitants of the region and the city of Sucre.

 

QUILA QUILA
Located 40 kilometers from the city by the highway to Quila-Quila. It is an old colonial town of pre-hispanic roots located at 3.100 meters over the sea level . Their streets have a layout in grid, with constructions of mud and straw roofs.

In this place you can see terraces of pre-colonial sowing fields, enormous stones can be observed with petroglifos that show zoomorphisms and anthropomorphisms shapes, as well as fossilized remains of animals.

POTOLO
It is situated in a great open space among the mountain ranges. Their cultivation fields are watered by the river of the same name. The landscape is wide and typical of the sub-plain fields. Their inhabitants are aborigens of the place. The textile and handmade production is practiced by the natives since pre-Hispanic times. They are characterised for the use of natural colours, as well as the oneiric motives with which they decorate them.

TANGA TANGA
There are four the panels with petroglifos that are located on the rocky wall of a gulch. Its motives represent man, animals and abstractions. The age of these testimonies is possibly more than 2.500 years. The landscape of the surroundings is startling, enormous stone masses surge from the depths to show before our eyes.
