The name Cotahuma means in Aymara Lake Of Water. Rivers such as the Jarañapampa, Cotahuma, Melchuco and others surround this area.

This district is located at the West Side of the city. It starts in the neighbourhood of Sopocachi, which is the most artistic and bohemian neighbourhood of La Paz. Here is easy to find art galleries, coffee shops and pubs that offer a variety of drinks and live music and restaurants where one can enjoy excellent local and international cuisine.

 
 

There are very steep hillsides that go all the way to Villa Nueva Potosí, where houses look like climbing towards the hills. The location is ideal for a City Observatory point.

Main Observatories
Eduardo Siles. Located at one side of the Kantutani Ave. From there one can see the Devil's Tooth, the red mountains and the South side of the city.

Jacha Kollo. This name means Great Mountain, and during the pre-Hispanic period it was a center for Andean rituals. In 1881 Andrés Tupac Amaru established here his head quarters to dominate the city. It is located in the Tacagua sector, known as Cruz Pata.

The Montículo. Is a huge rock formation made of dirt and stone. It was built more than 100 years ago, and it has a beautiful view of the city. There is a small and nice church of the Inmaculada Concepción. On December 8th there is a celebration to honor the virgin with typical dances that parade around the district.
